Hi, I’m Jim Schmitt, Director of Assessment & Technology for the Eau Claire Area School District.
The Technology Department would like you to be aware of a change to the operating system on our district’s computers. This change will be occurring during this spring and summer. The reason for the change is that our current operating system that you’ve been used to seeing, Windows XP, will no longer be supported by Microsoft.
The new operating system, Windows 7, does have a different look. However, this change should not impact the day-to-day computer use for most staff. Many of the programs that we rely on, such as Word, Outlook, and Excel, will continue to function as they have in the past.
Over the past year, different grade levels and departments have been charged with evaluating our educational software titles to ensure that they will work on Windows 7. In situations where our current software is not compatible with Windows 7 we have worked to find newer versions of the software or replacement titles that work in a similar manner.
The Technology Department does not foresee a need to conduct special staff trainings for Windows 7. If you do feel a need for assistance with this change please access one of the short video tutorials created by our Software Integration Specialist, Leslie Ballantine.
If you have any questions regarding this change in operating systems please feel free to contact me at Extension 13081.
As always, thank you for everything you do to support the students of our District.
