Specific procedures for identification and programming can be found at the Identification and Programming page in this site. Here is a summary of possibilities for your review if you think your child may need an enrichment or alternate program. If you are new to our district, or planning to attend our schools, this page will give you general information about our Gifted Education Department. Refer to Gifted Education Staff for a list of contacts who can answer your specific questions.

  • Student identification and academic placement may be from prior testing and placement from another district
  • New students to our district may receive testing for math and/or language arts placements
  • Parent, teacher, student, and peer recommendations assist the GT staff to develop a record of student abilities and talents
  • A school ability inventory or IQ score is a part of the record, but evidence of student knowledge guides enrichment instruction and/or academic placement
  • Student identification and programming is consistent across the district and includes students from all cultural and socio-economic backgrounds
  • Programming is based on district curriculum models to prepare students for the next academic or artistic level or experience
  • Programming options may include:
    • differentiation in the classroom
    • advanced lessons supporting in-class instruction
    • pull out programs for students performing at 2 - 3 grade levels above age level peers
    • tiered or compacted instruction
    • single grade accelerations
