Service Learning

Starting with the 2006-2007 school year and continuing through the present school year, the Eau Claire Area School District has been the recipient of Learn and Serve Grants from the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction.  The purpose of the grant support is to offer school district employees ongoing professional development training on the topic of school based service-learning programs and to nurture the practice of offering high quality service-learning as an instructional methodology.  The teachers are supported in their endeavor to implement a lasting service-learning culture in their classrooms by their principal, partnership coordinator, school counselor, district curriculum specialists, school board members, and by the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire Center for Service-Learning.

Service-Learning is...
"
a Method of Teaching and Learning That Combines Academic Work with Service to the Community. Students Learn by Doing Through a Clear Application of Skills and Knowledge While Helping Meet Needs in the School or Greater Community.”
(As defined by DPI and UWEC)
