Band Expectations
- Playing any instrument well requires practice.
- Practice pays off through the joy of playing and performing.
- Be respectful of other people, equipment and instruments. Do not touch what is not yours.
- Although schools have instrument storage areas, these exist primarily for school instruments and for convenience during the school day. Instrument storage rooms are not secure, and schools cannot be responsible for anything left in them. No instruments should be left at school overnight. Instruments are expected to be taken home every night to practice. (Unless given approval by your band director.)
- Practice your band assignments: write down assignments on practice chart every band class.
- PENCILS with erasers are a MUST in band every band class! NEVER A PEN!
- ATTENDANCE POLICY: It is very important that all team members of band be present for all band events. An absence of even one performer can make a big difference in the success experienced by the whole group. Missing a performance without two weeks or earlier written notice from your parents and without completing the make-up work may hurt the team and result in your grade being lowered one full letter grade. (Excused absence: unavoidable conflict with a note two weeks or earlier from parents, illness or an emergency).
- REEDS: All clarinet and saxophone players need to have three or more good reeds at all times. Oboes are expected to have two good reeds at all times. The brand of reed you play on highly effects the quality of sound that comes out of your instrument when you play. DO NOT PLAY ON RICO REEDS ! We recommend LaVoz, Vandoran and Rico Royal Reeds.
