Drawing II just completed a unit that looked at various ways artists have viewed the human figure as a subject for art work. Students focused on the work of contemporary artist Robert Longo and a series of large drawings he made during the late 70s entitled ”Men in Cities”. Longo’s large charcoal drawings used photographs as reference. Through cropping and isolation of the figure on a white ground, Longo created powerful expressive works of art. Drawing II students participated in a photo shoot and generated a self-portrait in an expressive Longo inspired style. The students used a grid system to enlarge the photo and used charcoal to render value. Stop by the MHS library to see a great display!
