We are dedicated to providing high quality, nutritious foods to every student because we believe that proper nutrition plays a vital role in the academic and overall success and health of children.
Monthly breakfast and lunch menus are available for Early Education, Elementary, Middle and High School. Breakfast is served at both High Schools, all Middle Schools and most Elementary Schools. Secondary breakfast menus vary by school. Both breakfast and lunch menus for all education levels can be found in the "Breakfast and Lunch Menus" option on the side bar.
USDA Breakfast and Lunch
The Eau Claire Area School District participates in the National School Lunch and School Breakfast Programs. Lunches are designed to provide 1/3 of the Recommended Dietary Allowances for: Protein, Vitamin A, Vitamin C, Iron, Calcium, and Calories. In addition, no more than 30% of the calories come from fat and no more than 10% of calories come from saturated fat.
Breakfasts provide 1/4 of the Recommended Dietary Allowances for the nutrients listed above and follow the guidelines of no more than 30% of calories from fat and less than 10% of calories from saturated fat.
Offer Vs. Serve
The Eau Claire Area School District utilizes the "Offer vs. Serve" provision for breakfast and lunch.
Elementary lunches include two entree choices and four side choices. At the secondary level three entree choices and five side options are offered. In order to have a complete lunch, each student must choose one entree and may refuse up to two side items, but students are encouraged to try all the side items offered. At breakfast, students may refuse up to one item.
Offering students options to compile a complete lunch or breakfast, rather than simply serving them, allows for less food waste because each child is given the choice to choose healthy foods based on their personal preferences. It also gives our children a wider variety of foods to try, helping them prepare to choose healthy foods throughout their life.
