Regularly scheduled meetings of the Board of Education are held the first and third Monday of the month at 7:00 p.m. These meetings are held in the Board Room of the Administration Building at 500 Main Street. All meetings are open to the public except the closed session portion of the meeting. The Board often meets more than twice a month. The public is always notified of these meetings through the local media. Meeting agendas and supporting materials can be found by selecting the Board Meeting Materials link and clicking on the meeting date and minutes can be found by clicking the Past Minutes link on the left-side menu. It is suggested that people who have a specific topic to discuss at a Board meeting should call the Superintendent at the Administration Building and ask to be placed on the agenda. Agendas are printed on Wednesday prior to the Board meeting, so the request would have to be made before that date.
School Board meetings are rebroadcast during the week following the Monday Board meeting on Public Access. The rebroadcasts air at the following times: Tuesday's at 1 p.m., Wednesday's at 8 a.m., and Friday’s at 7 p.m. or tune in to 101.9 FM during the same time as the rebroadcast to hear the meeting.
There are five parts to School Board meetings - Public Forum, Board/Administrative Reports, Consent Resolution Agenda, Committee Reports/Items for Discussion, and the Closed Session.
During the Public Forum citizens are allowed up to four minutes to address the Board and share viewpoints on district or school-wide concerns. To review the procedures for speaking at meetings please click on this link: Speaking at Meetings
During the Board/Administrative Reports, the Superintendent of Schools gives an update, communications can be shared, the Student Representatives give a report, and any other reports are given.
For the Consent Resolution Agenda the Board has been furnished with background material on each item or has discussed it at a previous meeting. Items are acted upon with one vote without discussion. If a Board member wants to discuss any item, it will be pulled out of the consent agenda and voted on separately.
In the Committee Reports/Items for Discussion portion of the meeting, the Board is provided with information and given an opportunity to discuss items for the first time. It is during Committee Reports that members of the general public have a chance to be heard after the Board thoroughly discusses the topic.
Some information the Board receives must be held as confidential information. Board business such as salary negotiations for employees must be considered over a period of time because of the very nature of the procedures. Items of this type are handled in Closed Session. The school district is governed under the open meeting law for closed session. Announcements must be made as to topics that will be discussed in the closed session.
